We use National Route 1A as the primary corridor because it is the most direct path and provides the best access to the DMZ sites. The newer Cam Lo to La Son expressway is used to bypass the urban traffic of Hue and Quang Tri city. We avoid the Ho Chi Minh West highway for direct transfers as the steep gradients and sharp curves significantly increase fuel consumption and travel time. The final leg uses Provincial Road 562 to reach the heart of the national park.Operational Reality
Ongoing expansion works on the Cam Lo to La Son expressway currently enforce a 50km/h speed limit which slightly increases travel times. Heavy industrial traffic around the Dong Ha intersection can cause congestion during the early afternoon. Sunday evenings often see a surge in local traffic returning to Hue, so we suggest avoiding late departures then.
