Ho Chi Minh City to Mui Ne — Private Car vs Bus vs Train

For a group of 4, the private car works out at $24.75 per person — comparable to a sleeper bus or overnight train when you account for door-to-door pickup, flexible timing, and no connections.

Sleeper Bus

$8 – $12 / person

  • Mien Dong Bus Station
  • Departures occur every hour from early morning until late at night.
  • Coaches use the CT01 expressway network to reach the Phan Thiet outskirts before transferring to local shuttles.

⚠ Fixed drop-off points mean you often need a secondary taxi to reach specific resorts along the long Nguyen Dinh Chieu coastal strip.

Express Train

$9 – $16 / person

  • Saigon Railway Station
  • One dedicated tourist train departs daily in the morning, with additional services during peak holidays.
  • The railway line runs parallel to the main North-South corridor inland from the coast.

⚠ The train arrives at Phan Thiet Station, which is roughly 20 kilometres away from the main Mui Ne hotel zone.

Select the Right Car for Your Group

Couples or solo travellers These travellers are often Korean or European couples heading to boutique resorts for relaxation or seafood dining. A sedan provides a quiet environment for the expressway drive while fitting easily into the tight parking spaces found along the Mui Ne beach front.

→ Standard Sedan (EV) · from $99

Active travellers with gear This vehicle is chosen by Australian or American kite surfers who need extra space for their boards and equipment bags. The SUV handles the occasional sandy patches on the roads leading to the remote kite launching spots better than a smaller car.

→ Comfort SUV (EV) · from $115

Families or social groups Large groups and families use the van to visit the White Sand Dunes or the Fairy Stream together in one trip. The high roof and ample legroom ensure comfort for all passengers even when the vehicle is loaded with bulky luggage and beach gear.

→ 16-Seat Minibus · from $169

What our drivers know about this route

Road Decision We utilise the CT01 Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh to Dau Giay expressway for the first segment to exit the metropolitan area quickly. From Dau Giay, we transition onto the dedicated Dau Giay to Phan Thiet expressway, which bypasses the slow-moving traffic of National Highway 1. This modern corridor is preferred because it avoids the high density of motorbikes and local township speed limits. We only exit the expressway at the Ba Bau intersection to make the final approach into Phan Thiet and Mui Ne. This route is the most efficient path currently available in 2026.
Operational Reality Heavy congestion at the Ho Chi Minh City entrance gates is the primary factor affecting arrival times, especially on Friday afternoons. Weekend traffic toward the coast often peaks on Saturday mornings, while Sunday evenings see heavy return flow at the Long Thanh toll booth. Tropical downpours during the monsoon months can briefly reduce visibility on the Dau Giay to Phan Thiet stretch. We monitor real-time navigation to bypass any sudden accidents on the main expressway artery.
Seasonal Notes The dry season from November to April offers the most reliable driving conditions with clear skies and low wind. Between May and October, sudden afternoon storms can lead to minor flooding in low-lying areas of Ho Chi Minh City.
Pickup & Drop-off Specifics In Ho Chi Minh City, we provide door-to-door service, though narrow alleys in District 4 or District 10 may require a short walk to the main road. Most Mui Ne resorts are located along Nguyen Dinh Chieu street, which is fully accessible to all our vehicle types. There are no height restrictions for vans or SUVs at the standard hotel lobbies in this coastal area. Drivers will assist with luggage directly at the hotel entrance.

What passengers say about this route

We took a sedan from our hotel in District 1 directly to the resort on Nguyen Dinh Chieu. The driver used the Dau Giay-Phan Thiet expressway which made the journey much faster than we expected. We saw many dragon fruit farms along the roadside once we exited the main highway. The car was comfortable, though the driver played local radio slightly louder than I prefer for a long sleep.

Ho Chi Minh City → Mui Ne

Sedan · 2025-12

The SUV was essential for our kite surfing gear and large bags as we headed back to the airport. Traffic near the Long Thanh toll plaza was quite heavy because it was a Sunday afternoon return. We made a quick stop at a rest station near Xuan Loc to grab some water and snacks. The leather seats were a bit hot in the midday sun despite the strong air conditioning.

We were 4 people going from The Ritz Saigon to Mui Ne and booked the 11 seater limousine. Very comfortable for the long trip. The driver was already waiting with a name card which was a nice touch 👍 Booking had small hiccups — they first sent the price in HUF instead of USD so had to ask again, and PayPal had some issue at first but we managed at the end. But what really impressed me — right when we arrived in Mui Ne, my friend realized he unfortunately left his phone in the car. I contacted them straight away, they called the driver immediately, found the phone in one of the seater bags and arranged a Grab to deliver it back. 298.000 VND and about 45min-1 hour later we had the phone back. Everything was perfect 🙏
