At Lao Cai, we transition to National Road 4D (QL4D) for the final 35 km ascent (1 hour). This is the fastest 2026 corridor to Sapa, climbing to 1,500m. A brief stop at the KM57 rest area helps passengers adjust to the altitude change.

Operational Reality

Mountain fog on the QL4D is the main variable from December to February, primarily between 04:00 and 08:00. We mandate a 07:30 departure to hit the pass once the mist has lifted and to bypass Hanoi’s 08:00 gridlock. Fridays include a 45-minute buffer for weekend traffic. If visibility is poor, drivers hold at Lao Cai for safety.

Seasonal Notes

Winter mist (Dec–Feb) can add 60 minutes to journeys, while the July–August monsoon requires close weather monitoring. For Lunar New Year and National Day, traffic volumes surge; we advise booking 30 days in advance to secure travel slots during these peak periods.

Pickup & Drop-off Specifics

Hanoi Old Quarter access is restricted for coaches. Pickup is at our Tran Quang Khai terminal, a 300–500m walk from central hotels. In Sapa, we arrive at the Sapa Main Station.
